Scope Sheldon/Diversified Wood Laboratory Casework and Axis Tables

The challenge for Gallatin High School was to develop a multi-discipline science lab used for biology, anatomy, chemistry, physics and general science. Varia was involved in designing and specifying the laboratory casework. Each lab was equipped with student tables distinguished by their curvilinear shaped tops that easily adjust in height with a motorized lift system. The tables accommodate four students facing the teacher wall, which is an ideal classroom configuration for lab or lecture as it encourages student collaboration and teacher circulation. The teacher’s desk with motorized countertop provides flexibility, allowing stand-up height for demonstrations and desk height for paperwork. In the design process, Varia considered the nuances of each discipline and incorporated solutions for space, storage, and equipment. The Gallatin High School labs are in essence a renaissance man — skilled in a variety of fields.
