In August 2014, a press conference was held at the Crittenden Regional Hospital announcing its imminent closure. Doctors and EMTs pledged their support for the community, but there was fear as it became difficult to get patients to facilities during the “golden hour” of emergency care.
Four years later, the hospital doors of a new facility, Baptist Memorial-Crittenden opened—a much-needed reprieve for West Memphis, Arkansas and its surrounding communities. Varia was brought in early on the project to assist with detailed product design and applications as well as establish a cost-effective budget.

Sanitation is of primary importance in the hospital setting, and today we can use products that are warm and comfortable as well as easily sterilized. The laminate panels and upholstered benches create a welcoming environment for employees and visitors to recharge in both the main lobby and market lobby. The patient rooms include Varia Casework plastic laminate headwalls and upper cabinets, wardrobe cabinets, and a solid surface vanity with an integral sink.

With the opening of BMH-Crittenden, cancer care became more readily available with the inclusion of an infusion room. This room features a custom check-in desk with wood grain laminate and a solid surface countertop.
No hospital is complete without a pharmacy, and pharmacists and assistants need ample space to communicate and perform hands-on work. The Varia Casework workstation with solid surface countertop houses necessary technology and gives employees the room to perform other tasks. The gravity fed shelving and lower cabinets offer storage solutions and organization.
